With a couple of quick routed grooves and table buttons you can easily secure the table top wit.
Woodworking attach table top. Dont over tighten just snug. Make the groove at least 14 deep and be sure it is a little further down the apron than the depth of the rabbet on the blocks. Chisel out the sides of the hole to allow the table top fastener to move freely.
Measure or eyeball where you want each leg. You could try this out on some scrap and test for strength first. The top must be firmly attached to the base.
Regardless of the method you choose it should meet the following criteria. Theres more than one way to attach a solid wood table top. In this video I show you how I attach table tops to bases.
The brackets that run accross the grain would have to have slotted holes to allow for expansion. Use your pocket hole screws to attach the middle of the top to your legs. The top must remain flat.
Be sure that the legs are an equal distance from the corners. Screw figure 8 fastener to base with 12 6 flat head screws. Attach the edges of the table to the end of the 2x4s with elongated screw holes.
Remove legs and drill holes for threaded inserts. The most important requirements of any method are 1 to keep the top firmly in contact with the undercarriage preventing it from warping more than minimally and 2 to allow the top to move across its grain as the wood expands and contracts with changes in humidity. Screws in a slotted hole or figure 8s are arguably still the best method.
